Market fountain - construction of the fountain parts

On Monday, 14 March, from 9 am to around 1 pm, the four fountain parts for the market fountain on the market will be delivered individually, placed on the foundations and secured. For this purpose, a crane will lift the massive parts, which are up to 2.80 metres tall.
Peter Börner, Head of the City of Chemnitz Green Space Department, will be available to answer questions from journalists at the market fountain from 12 noon to 1 pm .
The civil engineering work has been completed, i.e. everything has already been prepared in the ground and the fountain chamber and the associated technology have been finalised. The final work before the fountain can go into operation will take about a month after installation and assembly. During this time, the paved areas will be closed, the seating furniture installed and the water feature adjusted. The ceremonial opening of the new market fountain is expected to take place in mid-April if the early spring is mild.
The delivery of the fountain parts from China had been postponed several times due to the coronavirus. The weekly market and other events also determined the time window in which active construction could take place.
The work by London-based German artist Daniel Widrig, entitled "Manifold", won the international artistic competition for a market fountain in Chemnitz in June 2019. The fountain's sculptures are made of shiny, light-coloured stainless steel. In combination with the water, they will provide an interesting eye-catcher at the market. The cost of the artwork is 450,000 euros.
