Marianne Brandt Secondary School is officially opened

The Marianne-Brandt-Oberschule, Vettersstraße 34, will be officially opened on Monday, 21 August at 9 am. Mayor Sven Schulze will symbolically hand over a key to the pupils, parents' council and school management in the canteen. Headmistress Ulrike Schulz will then present the school's new logo.
Representatives of the media are invited to attend. Following the official handover, at around 9.30 a.m., the school management invites media representatives to take a tour of the new building.
As planned and decided by Chemnitz City Council in 2020, Annenschule - Oberschule - will move from Brauhausstraße 16 to Vettersstraße 34 at the start of the 2023/24 school year. A total of around 320 pupils will be learning there from Monday. In future, around 500 pupils will attend the newly built Marianne Brandt Secondary School, which will have three classes.
The site was once home to the Dr Theodor Neubauer School, an old school building with a connecting corridor to a school sports hall. As it proved uneconomical to renovate and extend the existing building after an investigation, a completely new building was constructed. Demolition and new construction began in July 2020, and the building was completed in time for the start of the school year. The construction costs totalled 33.5 million euros. This includes equipment worth around 2 million euros.
In addition to the four-storey school building with a total gross floor area of 12,600 square metres and a canteen and assembly hall area, a two-court hall as well as break and sports areas have also been built.
The sports hall, centrally located on the first floor, is accessible via a separate entrance or from the school building via the stairs and lift, so that the sports hall can also be used by sports clubs independently of the school. The lift is directly connected to the club sports entrance. This provides barrier-free access to all levels of the school and sports hall. The sports hall has 199 spectator seats with integrated spaces for wheelchair users on the first floor.
The ground floor is transparently glazed in the recessed entrance zone and towards the inner courtyard, offering a direct view into the green inner courtyard from the canteen. There is also a school club as an all-day area with lounging and relaxation zones in the interior and outdoor areas with benches in front.
