Marc van Eyck plays on the Chemnitz tower carillon
Concert: on 28 October, 10 a.m., audible at the Chemnitz market
On Saturday, 28 October at 10 a.m., Belgian carillonneur Marc van Eyck will be playing a concert on the carillon in the tower of the New Chemnitz Town Hall, Markt 1, as part of the "Connecting the Towers of Europe with Sound" project. The concert has been organised by Sebastian Liebold, who regularly plays the carillon in Chemnitz himself.

Marc van Eyck (65) is carillonneur at St Gertrude's Church in Leuven (Belgium), trained at the Royal Carillon School in Mechelen. He has guest performance experience in Germany, France, Norway, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland and the USA. He has accompanied the installation of new carillons on several occasions. He writes enthusiastically about the instrument, which can convey classical and modern pieces of music to people in public spaces. He regularly combines world-famous and local melodies in his concerts.
The Chemnitz tower carillon, a hand-played glockenspiel, was inaugurated in 1978. It has a range of 48 bells so that melodies from different eras and genres can be played.
The largest bell weighs 957 kilograms, the smallest just over 9 kilograms. All the bells together weigh more than 5 tonnes. The keys and pedals are connected to the clappers of the bells via a steel wire. The manual operation enables the bells to be struck in a graduated loud and quiet manner.
The carillon in the tower of the New Town Hall forms the "Ringing Town Hall" in Chemnitz together with the figural carillon in the Old Town Hall.

Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 am to 10.30 am and
Fridays from 4.30 to 5 pm.
