Marble Palace: Today preparation for partial demolition of the building

Demolition work expected to be completed on Saturday evening - Limbacher Straße must remain closed until then

After the roof of the Marmorpalast building collapsed yesterday at around 4pm and the hall collapsed and the façade threatened to tip over onto Limbacher Straße, a full road closure had to be ordered yesterday evening for safety reasons (PM 326 from 4 June). The diversion that was necessary in the meantime leads into the city via Waldenburger Straße, Kochstraße, Weststraße and Horst-Menzel-Straße. Out of town, the diversion will be via Horst-Menzel-Straße, Weststraße, Schiersandstraße, Bodelschwinghstraße and Waldenburger Straße. Public transport is also affected, CVAG will provide information on this.

The city of Chemnitz has immediately initiated measures at the property - the following status is currently achieved:

As the owner of the property cannot be contacted so far and is therefore unable to carry out the necessary hazard prevention measures himself, the City of Chemnitz has commissioned the company Günther to carry out the work directly. The company will demolish the property as follows: The building masses will remain on the property and will be pushed together in such a way that there will no longer be any danger to the public traffic area.

As heavy equipment is required to carry out the partial demolition, the company will begin the preparatory construction work today (Wednesday). The actual demolition work can begin on Friday evening (7 June) at the earliest.

The company estimates that the demolition work will be completed by Saturday evening (8 June) at the latest.

Road users, including passers-by, are asked to understand that Limbacher Straße will have to remain closed until then in order to avert any potential dangers. Last but not least, we urge you not to obstruct the work on the construction site with curious onlookers!

Building at Glauchauer Straße 7:

Barrier measure - demolition expected next week

Last Saturday evening (1 June), as already reported on request, parts of the dwarf house at Glauchauer Straße 7 collapsed and the city's building permit office ordered the danger zone to be cordoned off (all of Glauchauer Straße, the pavement and one lane of Leipziger Straße) .

After the on-site visit on Monday (3 June), the barrier had to be extended. Based on the damage, it can be assumed that further failure of components, in particular the diaphragm house, as well as the collapse of the remaining roof structure and the damaged chimney are to be expected. It was also discovered that some parts (small bricks) had fallen beyond the barrier. The barrier was therefore extended so that a distance of at least eight metres from the building was maintained.

The owner was also informed on Monday. He has already commissioned the demolition company and construction supervision. According to the owner, the demolition is expected to take place next week.
