Making music together across national borders
Municipal Music School: Exchange project leads to Dublin from 19 to 26 April
From 19 to 26 April, students from Chemnitz Municipal Music School will be visiting Luttrelstown Community College in Dublin (Ireland). The international exchange project continues the musical collaboration between the two institutions, which have maintained a close friendship since 2015.
The aim of the exchange is to give young musicians the opportunity to make music together across national borders, gain new musical inspiration and get to know other cultures.
After students from Dublin visited Chemnitz from the end of November to the beginning of December 2025 (see press release 839/2025), 18 music students from the vocal and woodwind ensembles at Chemnitz Municipal Music School are now making a return visit to Ireland with three supervising teachers. In addition to the musical exchange, a varied cultural programme with insights into life and culture in the Irish capital awaits them during their stay.
The highlight of the project is a joint concert by the young musicians. After several days of intensive rehearsals, the participants present their programme in Dublin. The final concert in the auditorium of Luttrellstown Community College, with pieces ranging from classical to pop, will illustrate the unifying power of music and the importance of international cultural co-operation between young people.
The project is supported by the Sparkasse Chemnitz, the Kulturstiftung des Freistaats Sachsen and the Förderverein der Städtischen Musikschule.
