Invitation to journalists: Foundation Day of the ‘Johanneum’ Children and Youth Foundation: 28 October, 5.00 pm, Garagencampus, Zwickauer Straße 164

On Wednesday 28 October at 5.00 pm, the ‘Johanneum’ Children’s and Youth Foundation invites its circle of supporters to Foundation Day 2026 at the Garagencampus, Zwickauer Straße 164.
Mayor Knut Kunze will give a welcoming address. This year’s patron is Jens Meiwald, CEO of Chemnitzer Verkehrs-AG (CVAG). Even before the official start – from 3.30 pm – he will be giving the invited guests a tour of the Garagencampus, which has been bringing together culture, community and ideas for the future since 2025.

Media representatives are invited to attend. This offers an opportunity to speak with representatives of the foundation, the patron and other guests. For organisational reasons, please register by 4.00 pm on 27 October at pressestelle(at)stadt-chemnitz.de.

During the event, a film will be shown providing an overview of the work of the ‘Johanneum’ Children’s and Youth Foundation, featuring highlights from the Johanneum Academy in February 2026 and the MINT-FIT Camp. The film was produced in collaboration with Filmwerkstatt Chemnitz e. V.

Another highlight will be a prize draw for three works of art created in collaboration with pupils from the Dr. Wilhelm André Gymnasium. These works focus on Chemnitz and its history, present and future, whilst also establishing a connection to the Johanneum.

Background
The ‘Johanneum’ Children’s and Youth Foundation looks back on a long history: it was founded as early as 1855 by Carl Christian Hübner to provide opportunities for children from socially disadvantaged families. Following its re-establishment in 2002, it became the first legally independent municipal foundation in the city of Chemnitz.
The foundation supports numerous projects, including the Johanneum Academy. Among other things, it offers educational programmes, sport and creative activities to socially disadvantaged children during the school holidays.

The foundation can be supported through donations and endowments so that it can continue to provide effective assistance.
