Major traffic restrictions on Zwickauer Straße
Construction work on the route requires partial reduction to one lane
From Monday, 13 February, road users on Zwickauer Straße between Stollberger Straße and Kappler Drehe will have to be prepared for major restrictions.
The reason for this is the major expansion of the Schönau tram line by CVAG. The neighbouring lanes will have to be closed in sections for this, meaning that only one lane will be available on Zwickauer Straße in some places. In some cases, it will also not be possible to turn left.
Section between Stollberger Straße and Reichsstraße:
From 13 February until probably the beginning of July, the respective lanes adjacent to the track will be closed for the track construction work between Stollberger Straße and Reichsstraße. In the course of this, coordinated construction work on the sewer and gas pipeline network (by ESC and inetz/eins) is also planned from mid-February to mid-May.
Only one lane will be available between Reichsstraße and Stollberger Straße in the direction of the city centre. The left-turn lane into Reichsstraße will no longer be available in the direction of the country.
The diversion will be via Bahnhofstraße, Annaberger Straße and Reichsstraße. A bypass will also be set up for pedestrians and cyclists.
Reichsstraße junction:
The Reichsstraße track crossing is to be renewed during the summer holidays (from 10 July to 18 August). Traffic on Reichsstraße will then be reduced to one lane in this area.
It will not be possible to turn left from Zwickauer Straße into Reichsstraße from either direction.
Between the pedestrian ford at the Industrial Museum and the Kappler Drehe railway crossing:
From 3 July until probably 18 August, the landward carriageway of Zwickauer Straße will be fully closed in this area. From Ulmenstraße to the Zwickauer Straße/Neefestraße junction, landward-bound traffic will be routed via the northern lane of the city-bound carriageway. This means that only one lane is available in each direction.
The time window before or during the summer holidays was chosen for this section due to the considerable traffic space restrictions.
Track crossings:
The Schillstraße and Am Feldschlösschen track crossings will each be built with half-side closures.
At the Guerickestraße crossing, a collector of the ESC will be renewed in addition to the track construction work. Due to the cramped conditions, a temporary temporary carriageway will be set up for the construction period, for which a section of the Kappelbach cycle path will also have to be used. A mobile traffic light will regulate traffic.
In the area of Einsteinstraße, the Kappelbach cycle path must be fully closed in sections for the construction period of the ESC measure. The alternative cycle route will be via Mühlgasse between Popowstraße and Guerickestraße.
In addition to the track construction work, two channels of the ESC will be renovated at the Popowstraße track crossing. Traffic will be shifted to a temporary carriageway before the construction work begins. A mobile traffic light will regulate traffic.
