Maintenance work in the nature reserve
Access will be cleared on Monday
On Monday, 7 February, maintenance work will be carried out in the Chemnitzaue nature reserve near Draisdorf. Only overhanging branches and broken wood will be removed and cleared. No trees will be felled.
The aim of this measure by the Environment Agency is to clear access to the Heinersdorf shallow water. This is located directly on the Chemnitz Valley cycle path opposite the sewage treatment plant in Heinersdorf.
Background:
The Chemnitz floodplain near Draisdorf is a rare near-natural floodplain landscape in the urban area. The typical floodplain biotopes with their high biodiversity are designated as floodplains. As natural retention areas, they serve to increase the resilience of habitats as climate change progresses.
Numerous bodies of water and copses have been newly created, such as the Heinersdorf shallow water in the area of the former sewage sludge settling basin.
