Lugau - Wüstenbrand footpath and cycle path

Start of construction of the second section of the building project in Mittelbach

From Monday, 15 March, construction work on the Lugau - Wüstenbrand footpath and cycle path will continue in the Mittelbach area. In the second section, starting from the end of the already completed section from the direction of Lugau at Gewerbeallee Mittelbach to the town boundary (Oberlungwitz), the new cycle path route will be constructed.

The cycle path will continue along the former railway embankment for approx. 920 metres. As in the previous section, the footpath and cycle path will be 2.50 metres wide and have an asphalt surface. This also includes the bridge over the B173 after the Landgraben/Pflockenstraße junction. Appropriate renovation work is being carried out on this bridge.

Work will initially begin with site clearance, i.e. the construction site from the start of construction to the bridge over the B173 will be cleared. An approx. 38 metre long monolithic retaining wall in the slope area is planned for the path connection to the bridge. After the bridge, the existing track ballast on the former railway line will be processed and the asphalt surface laid.

The construction costs amount to around 650,000 euros. The Free State of Saxony is supporting 90 per cent of the construction project with funds from the municipal road and bridge construction funding programme. The funding will be made available in 2021 and 2022.

The construction work is being carried out by the construction company ATS GmbH from Chemnitz.

The section is scheduled for completion in May 2022.
