Love Without Borders - Exhibition
Works of art by refugees from 16 September in the Chemnitz City Library
From Thursday, 16 September, the exhibition "Love Without Borders" will show pictures of refugees from Greek camps. It will be on display in the Culture & Countries section of the TIETZ Central Library until 16 November 2021.
The exhibition was made possible by the American Kayra Martinez, founder of the project of the same name and the Chemnitz-based aid organisation Human Aid Collective e.V.
Kayra Martinez, originally a flight attendant, travelled to refugee camps in Greece in 2015 to help the refugees in their situation through art projects with children and adults. She offers workshops in the refugee camps, encouraging the participants to use their pictures to address the issue of flight, tell their personal stories and provide insights into their inner lives. It is an opportunity to block out reality and process what they have experienced themselves. They find important recognition through the "Love Without Borders" project.
Kayra Martinez organises exhibitions of the pictures worldwide. The pictures speak for themselves and thus also draw attention to the situation of refugees and the crisis in Syria, Greece, Turkey and other places. The proceeds from the sale are used to support the children and their families. One hundred per cent of the sales go to the artists. They use the money for basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, medicine and so on. All donations go towards the artists' needs and the accommodation of families that the organisation supports.
On 13 October at 6 pm, Kayra Martinez will come to Chemnitz and give a talk about her project in the Central Library at the TIETZ.
