Lord Mayor Sven Schulze travels to the Finnish twin city of Tampere
On Wednesday, 17 November, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze will be travelling to Tampere in Finland. The occasion is the partnership that has linked the two cities for 60 years. Chemnitz has its longest city partnership with Tampere.
In addition to Lord Mayor Sven Schulze, the Chemnitz delegation includes Ferenc Csák, Head of Cultural Operations, Dr Christoph Dittrich, General Director of Chemnitz Municipal Theatre, and Mikko Fritze, Director of the Finnish Institute Berlin.
In Tampere, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze will meet with his counterpart, Lord Mayor Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, and two mayors. He will discuss the town twinning and various projects with them, including Chemnitz2025.
Tampere was one of the Finnish candidates for the European Capital of Culture 2026, and the delegation will meet with the Tampere ECoC bid team and cultural stakeholders from Tampere to explore opportunities for cooperation for Chemnitz2025.
The programme of the trip also includes visits to urban development projects such as Tampere's Five-star City Centre development programme.
The delegation will also attend the presentation "Garage of Autodidacts - Lecture Performance with Benjamin Gruner & Polina Sonis". The Chemnitz contribution will be performed during the German Culture Days to mark 60 years of city twinning between Tampere, Chemnitz and Essen. The German ambassador to Finland, H.E. Konrad Arz von Straussenburg, will also be welcomed.
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze will return on Friday, 19 November. The delegation will travel on to Oulu, the Finnish European Capital of Culture 2026, until Sunday 21 November and meet with the project managers, including the Director of Oulu2026, Piia Rantala-Korhonen. The delegation will also take part in the Lumo Light Festival in Oulu. Finally, participation in the Day of Joy and the Oulu X Comics Festival is on the programme.
