Lord Mayor Sven Schulze proposes to the City Council that CTM be wound up in an orderly manner
The aim is to reduce duplicate structures and realise savings
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze proposes to the City Council that the transfer of tasks of Chemnitz Tourismus- und Marketing GmbH (CTM) to other existing organisations be examined and that an orderly liquidation procedure be initiated for CTM.
The background to the proposal is the city's difficult budgetary situation, which also requires the city's holdings to focus on financially viable core areas and to examine the possible elimination of duplicate structures.
The liquidation procedure is intended to analyse the structures and processes of Chemnitzer Tourismus- und Marketing GmbH (CTM). It will also examine which of CTM's previous tasks and projects can be continued by partners of the City of Chemnitz who have the structures and expertise in the respective specialist areas.
Lord Mayor Sven Schulze: "The economic situation of CTM means that it does not seem sensible to continue the company in the long term. At the same time, an increase in municipal subsidies in the coming years is not realistic. Consistency and clarity are good guidelines, especially in difficult situations. I am convinced that in a new constellation and distribution of tasks, the strategic goals of the City of Chemnitz in the areas of city marketing and tourism can be pursued much more effectively. We will also be able to ease the burden on the city's budget. In doing so, we want to deliberately embark on an orderly process that creates certainty for all parties involved."
It will therefore be proposed to the city council that a decision in principle be taken at its meeting on 11 December. Prior to this, the CTM Supervisory Board will discuss the plans.
The promotion of tourism and marketing of the city, which is important for the Capital of Culture year 2025, could be seamlessly continued and professionalised in cooperation with partners, in particular the Chemnitz Zwickau Region e. V. tourism association. There is already a close interlinking here today, and further synergies are foreseeable.
The initiation of liquidation proceedings will not bring CTM's activities to an abrupt end. During the liquidation phase, which lasts at least one year, a careful examination is carried out to determine the transfer of tasks by a liquidator. In contrast to insolvency proceedings, liquidation serves the purpose of an orderly review of the tasks and ultimately the dissolution of the company with the involvement of the previous corporate bodies.
