On Wednesday, 5 March at 4 pm, Lord Mayor Sven Schulze will receive the Dean of Coventry Cathedral, The Very Reverend John Witcombe, on the occasion of Chemnitz Peace Day. The head of the Coventry congregation will sign the Golden Book of the City of Chemnitz in the Green Parlour of the City Hall.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to sign the Golden Book.
Afterwards, at 4.30 pm, The Very Reverend John Witcombe will take part in the public panel discussion on the topic of "Peace - a European idea" in the City Council Chamber of the Town Hall. The panel will also include Minister President Michael Kretschmer, UN expert Ekkehard Griep and education officer Tina Weinhold-Leiser.
At the main event of the Peace Day at 6 pm on the main stage, Neumarkt, the Dean will give a speech on "Thoughts on Reconciliation". He will also give the sermon at the Ecumenical Service for the Chemnitz Peace Day at 7.30 pm in the St. Jacobi City Church, award the Cross of Nails of Coventry and attend the founding of the Ecumenical Cross of Nails Centre Chemnitz.
Chemnitz Peace Day
On 5 March, Chemnitz Peace Day commemorates the bombing of the city 80 years ago and all the victims of the Second World War. Every year on this day, thousands of people from Chemnitz take a stand for peace, democracy and against right-wing extremism and xenophobia.
