Lord Mayor has herself typed
Request to all Chemnitz residents for typing on Saturday, 6 June 2015
The Mayor of Chemnitz, Barbara Ludwig, had herself typed today. As patron of the campaign day, the Lord Mayor is thus responding to the call to register for the Chemnitz student Nadine W., who has been diagnosed with leukaemia for the second time. Typing is necessary, as the donor and the patient must be almost identical in order to donate stem cells.
At the same time, today's typing is an invitation to all citizens to register on Saturday, 6 June in the Galerie Roter Turm. Mayor Barbara Ludwig: "It is a personal concern of mine to help this young woman and I would be delighted if many others would do the same. Anyone can be affected by a life-threatening illness. And suddenly only one thing is important: getting help to survive. I therefore ask the people of Chemnitz to take part in the typing campaign. After all, once you have registered, you can help people worldwide and be found as a donor."
The German Bone Marrow Donor Centre (DKMS) is organising a free typing session together with Nadine's family and friends on Saturday, 6 June from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Galerie Roter Turm. Any healthy person between the ages of 18 and 55 can take part. Chemnitz residents will have 5ml of blood taken and sent to the DKMS laboratories for typing. There are high hopes of finding a suitable donor for Nadine. There is also the opportunity to pay money into a donation account to cover the costs of the campaign day.
The 25-year-old student was diagnosed with leukaemia last year. In April of this year, the young patient was again diagnosed with blood cancer. Only a stem cell transplant can save Nadine's life. A suitable donor must be found for this.
