Lord Mayor bids farewell to Prof Dr Reimund Neugebauer
Prof Dr Reimund Neugebauer, who will take up his new position as President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in October of this year, was bid farewell today with a festive symposium in the lecture theatre of Chemnitz University of Technology. He also signed the city's Golden Book. In addition to Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig, Minister President Stanislaw Tillich and the current President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Prof Hans-Jörg Bullinger, also took part in the ceremony.
"With Prof Neugebauer, we are bidding farewell to a personality who has played a major role in Chemnitz's regained strength. It took people who led the way with skill, passion and courage. In Prof Neugebauer, we are saying goodbye to such a driving force today. In a healthy sense, he is a visionary who has the gift of picking people up and taking them with him on his journey from vision to realisation. It is not only the scientific community in Chemnitz and the region that owes him a debt of gratitude. With Prof Neugebauer at the helm, the IWU has also played a decisive role in helping many companies to occupy leading positions in the global market today. I wish him much joy, passion and success in his new role and hope that he will remain closely associated with Chemnitz."
Reimund Neugebauer studied mechanical engineering at TU Dresden and was Managing Director of the Institute for Machine Tool Engineering at TU Dresden from 1990. In 1992, he became head of the newly founded Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology in Chemnitz. In 1994, the institution was named a Fraunhofer Institute. He has been a full professor of machine tools and forming technology at Chemnitz University of Technology since 1993. Since 2000, he has also been Director of the Institute for Machine Tools and Production Processes IWP, which he founded himself.
