Long Day of Urban Nature 2015
17th GEO Biodiversity Day also in Chemnitz
On 6 June, the 17th GEO Biodiversity Day will take place throughout Germany under the motto "How much space does nature need: Where does biodiversity reach its limits?". The Chemnitz Botanical Garden is also taking part in this day with a colourful programme for young and old and invites the people of Chemnitz to spend a day exploring the flora and fauna on their own doorstep.
At activity stands in the Chemnitz Botanical Garden and on interesting excursions through the Crimmitschau Forest under expert guidance, all curious people, nature lovers and families are invited to embark on a journey of discovery through the biodiversity of our homeland. There will also be the opportunity to find out more about various sustainability topics and to talk to other participants. The musical programme will be provided by Kendy John Kretzschmar, the "singing biologist".
The event starts at 6 a.m. with a bird song walk from the bus stop on line 21 Wittgensdorfer Straße / Botanischer Garten. The official start is at 2 pm in the Botanical Garden. Excursions and activities will continue here until 5 p.m., to which young explorers are also very welcome. The day will end at 8 pm with a lecture on the secret life of bats followed by bat watching.
