"Live free - NO to violence against women" campaign
Flags at the town hall and activities in the city centre on Friday (23.11.), 2 pm, and on Sunday (25.11.), 4 pm
On Friday morning (23 November), two flags will be hoisted in front of Chemnitz town hall for the campaign. Initiated by Terre des Femmes, more than 900 flags will be hoisted nationwide to publicly set an example against violence against women. Afterwards, women from different parts of the world will report on violence against women. The disappearance of women, stoning of women, forced marriages, honour killings and trafficking in women will be just as much a topic as poverty among women and domestic violence.
On Sunday, 25 November at 4 pm, the Chemnitz Women's Aid Association invites you to a "funeral march" through the city centre: The meeting point is 4 pm in front of the town hall by the flags. The route then leads past the Am Wall community centre, on to the Red Tower and Stadthallenpark, to Karl-Marx-Kopf and over the Jansen Bridge to Uferpark: here, the women want to lay a wreath of mourning at the redwood tree planted in 2008 for all women affected by violence in the Chemnitz region, in particular Andrea N., who was killed by her husband in March 2012, who was killed by her husband in March 2012.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to accompany the actions - the organisers look forward to welcoming you as a guest.
