Live at the Brandhorst Museum in Munich

As part of the vhs.wissen live series, Chemnitz Adult Education Centre invites you to a special format on Thursday, 18 March, 7.30 to 9 pm:
On this evening, you can follow a live online tour of the Brandhorst Museum in Munich. Museum director Achim Hochdörfer will guide you through the exhibition rooms, which show more than 200 works by Cy Twombly: Paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs from different creative periods.
Participation is free of charge. Anyone interested can register by midnight on 17 March at www.vhs-chemnitz.de or 0371 488 4343 and will receive an access link by email.
Born in Lexington (Virginia, USA), Cy Twombly (1928 - 2011) is one of the most influential artists of our time. Based on Abstract Expressionism, he developed an idiosyncratic gestural style with letter-like, "linkish" signs, which he heightened to monumental proportions on large-format canvases.
No other artist of the 20th century was as unconditionally committed to the "zero point" of modern art as Twombly. Children's writing exercises, doodles lost in thought and graffiti on house walls serve as contemporary starting points for him to actualise the experiential content of mythical narratives and to draw an arc to the great themes of Mediterranean cultural history.
With the Cy Twombly collection, the Museum Brandhorst in Munich has the most important holdings of the artist's work in Europe.
The event is part of the series "vhs.wissen live - the digital science programme" as a cooperation between the VHS Chemnitz and the adult education centres in the Erding and SüdOst districts of Munich and the Museum Brandhorst in Munich.
