Literature seminar at the TU and exhibition at the Villa Esche
In the programme for the cultural theme year "MODERN(S) in Chemnitz - Art and Architecture 2014/2015", Chemnitz institutions and cultural institutions are offering a diverse programme and the city's cultural office is drawing attention to the next public events.
Public seminar "Contemporary literature for the city of modernity" - series of events on the history of the Chemnitz Society of Friends of Books
Prof. Dr. Christoph Fasbender, holder of the Chair of German Literature and Language History of the Middle Ages and Early Modern Period at Chemnitz University of Technology, will focus on the Gesellschaft der Bücherfreunde zu Chemnitz e.V. from 22 October 2014 to 5 February 2015, which was founded in Chemnitz in 1921 and published over eighty works of contemporary literature in bibliophile editions through a Chemnitz publishing house until 1945. With a programme that included authors such as Paul Ernst, Hermann Hesse, Rudolf G. Binding, Hans Carossa, Josef Weinheber and Rainer Maria Rilke, the society relied entirely on writers of the so-called "classical modernism" and authors who had already established themselves, but some of whom were still on the verge of their breakthrough.
The seminar will take place from 22 October 2014 to 5 February 2015 on Wednesdays at 5:15 pm at Chemnitz University of Technology, Straße der Nationen 62, room 368A.
Exhibition at Villa Esche "Chemnitz: City of Modernity - a modern city?
From Friday, 7 November, the Chemnitz Creative Centre of the Chemnitz Children, Youth and Family Support Association will be presenting the results of the project "City of Modernity - a modern city?" under the roof of Villa Esche. Together with around 70 children, young people and adults aged between 8 and 78, the creative centre has spent over a year exploring modernism in Chemnitz and capturing their very individual views on the subject in over 50 works of art (paintings, graphics, collages and a wall frieze with ceramic panels).
The vernissage is scheduled for Thursday, 6 November at 7 p.m. at Villa Esche, Parkstraße 58. Exhibition duration: 7 November 2014 to 22 February 2015.
