Lifting of bridge sections requires temporary full closure
Bridge construction for premium cycle path on Kalkstraße enters the next phase
On Tuesday, 19 November, the first steel construction work will begin on the approximately 185-metre-long bridge structure for the Wüstenbrand-Chemnitz premium cycle path on Kalkstraße. On Thursday, 21 November, the first bridge section, a so-called shot, will be lifted into place. This is possible without closing Kalkstraße.
However, Kalkstraße will have to be fully closed for the installation of the second bridge section. The closure will be in place from Friday, 22 November, around 6 pm, until Monday, 25 November, around 4 am. Two cranes with a nominal lifting capacity of more than 90 tonnes will be used.
The diversion will be via Trützschlerstraße - Limbacher Straße - Oberfrohnaer Straße - Kalkstraße (to the Rottluff motorway junction and the industrial estate).
The company Hentschke Bau GmbH from Bautzen was commissioned with the construction work and Metallbau Schubert GmbH from Markersdorf with the steel construction.
On 1 July 2024, construction work began on the bridge for the Wüstenbrand-Chemnitz premium cycle path on Kalkstraße. The bridge is required to allow the cycle path to cross Kalkstraße without levelling out. This fulfils an important criterion of the funding conditions for the premium cycle path. Completion is planned by the end of October 2025.
