Leselust: Ticket sales for events at the TIETZ start
Literature Days from 22 April to 14 May throughout Chemnitz and the cultural region
Tickets can now be purchased for all events of the Leselust literature festival taking place at the TIETZ. The 8th Literature Days will take place this year from 22 April to 14 May in Chemnitz and the cultural region. Tickets can be booked by calling 0371 488 4366.
The Leselust Literature Days have been organised every two years since 2006. The 8th edition is a cooperation project between Chemnitz cultural institutions, literary associations and booksellers, organised and coordinated by the Chemnitz City Library. On the occasion of the European Capital of Culture 2025, nine cities and municipalities in the Chemnitz region are also taking part in the programme for the first time. In the three weeks between World Book Day and the Chemnitz Museum Night, there will be a large selection of good books and authors at 66 events.
Regional literary creation also finds its place in the programme. The 1st Chemnitz Authors' Association and the Free German Authors' Association will be taking part with their own events. The Niederfrohna-based publishing house Mironde Verlag is participating with four new books. The publisher Heimatland Sachsen is also once again a partner of Leselust.
Insights into the programme:
The festival will kick off on 22 April at 7 p.m. in the TIETZ with the Leipzig-based Ukrainian author Svetlana Lavochkina and her latest book "The Red Duchess", a powerful portrait of Ukraine during Stalin's terror in the 1920s.
At the invitation of Chemnitz University of Technology, the multi-award-winning author Uwe Timm and his biographer and long-time editor Martin Hielscher will be guests in the "Literature and Knowledge" series on 27 April at 7 p.m. in the Oberdeck.
The readings by the deputy editor-in-chief of ZEIT magazine Emilia Schmechowski with her book "Rückkehr nach Polen" (Return to Poland) (25 April at the TIETZ) offer a look beyond the horizon to the neighbouring countries of Poland and the Czech Republic. April at the TIETZ) and the Czech writer Jaroslav Rudiš with "Winterberg's Last Journey" (11 May in Hainichen and 13 May at the TIETZ).
Bettina Wilpert and Ronja von Rönne, Heike Geißler and Rayk Wieland will be presenting their novels hot off the press at Lokomov and TIETZ respectively. The novel "Die Woche" (The Week) by Heike Geißler, who grew up in Karl-Marx-Stadt, has even been nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize.
Other well-known authors such as Julia Franck, Denis Scheck, Dominique Horwitz and Sabine Ebert will enrich the programme with readings from their latest books.
Thriller fans will also get their money's worth. Andreas Föhr at Wasserschloss Klaffenbach (6 May), Veikko Bartel at the Jahnsdorf airfield (29 April), Frank Goldammer at the district library in the Yorck area (28 April) and Titus Müller (13 May) in Burgstädt provide exciting entertainment.
On 23 April, World Book Day, the TIETZ foyer will be transformed into an open reading stage. All Chemnitz residents are invited to recite their own or other people's texts.

Children's literature is presented in a different way by Julia Ginsbach with her interactive Tafiti readings in Burgstädt and Chemnitz and Marie Brettschneider with the puppet theatre "Lieschen Radieschen und der Lämmergeier", freely adapted from the story by Martin Auer in Zschopau and Chemnitz.
The festival comes to an end on 14 May with the Free Comic Book Day in the Central Library. Chemnitz City Library is taking part in this Germany-wide event for the first time and is offering several comic workshops, including one with the well-known Chemnitz comic artist David Füleki.
