LESELUST: How do love and death become a narrative?

On Wednesday, 11 May at 7 pm, the city library invites you to a reading by Julia Franck in the TIETZ event hall. The author will be reading from her novel "Welten auseinander" at LESELUST . Admission costs 8 euros, concessions 6 euros.

The book:
Julia is born in East Berlin. She is eight when her mother takes her and her sisters to the West. The thirteen-year-old can no longer stay in the chaotic farmhouse and moves out to West Berlin. In addition to social welfare, the schoolgirl earns money by cleaning, she meets her father and immediately loses him, graduates from high school and meets Stephan, the love of her life. When she remembers, it is the present.
"Welten auseinander" is the moving story of an unusual youth full of ruptures and uncertainties; a painfully beautiful book of self-assertion that tells of shame and grief as precisely as it does of death and love.
The author:
Julia Franck was born in Berlin in 1970. She studied Ancient American Studies, Philosophy and Modern German Literature at the FU Berlin. Her debut "Der neue Koch" was published in 1997, followed by "Liebediener" (1999), "Bauchlandung. Geschichten zum Anfassen" (2000) and "Lagerfeuer" (2003). She spent the year 2005 at the Villa Massimo in Rome. Julia Franck received the 2007 German Book Prize for her novel "Die Mittagsfrau", which has been translated into 35 languages. Julia Franck's novel "Lagerfeuer" was adapted for the cinema in 2012/13 under the direction of Christian Schwochow under the title "Westen".
