"Lern- und Gedenkort Kaßberg-Gefängnis e.V." honoured by the "Lebendige Stadt" foundation
The Chemnitz association "Lern- und Gedenkort Kaßberg-Gefängnis" was honoured by the "Lebendige Stadt" foundation. The prize was awarded to projects that "use remembrance to create identity and provide a basis and impetus for urban development." The association on the Kaßberg received the recognition prize for the project "Creation of the Kaßberg Prison Learning and Memorial Site", according to Jürgen Renz, Chairman of the Association.
The prize jury selected the entry entitled "Kaßberg Prison - Learning and Remembrance" from 437 submissions from Germany and abroad. The Chemnitz-based organisation was one of the 16 best entries invited to the foundation's award ceremony. This took place yesterday in Essen. The Board of Trustees included personalities such as Matthias Platzeck, Arved Fuchs, Ingrid Mössinger and Burkhard Jung.
"We were the only award winners who worked exclusively on a voluntary basis and without institutional support. We are therefore extremely pleased to have been recognised in this way," says Jürgen Renz.
Four members accepted the award on behalf of the organisation.
