Lecture with music on the founding of Kiryat Bialik

On Wednesday, 24 May at 7 pm, interested parties are invited to a lecture with music in the concert hall of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School, Gerichtsstraße 1. As part of the 32nd Days of Jewish Culture, the evening will shed light on the involvement of Chemnitz Jews in the founding of the Israeli city of Kirjat Bialik, which has been a twin city of Chemnitz since last year.
Representatives of the media are also invited. Admission is free of charge.
The twinning agreement between Chemnitz and Kiryat Bialik was signed on 26 October 2022. Kiryat Bialik is located north-east of the city of Haifa in Israel and borders the Tel Afek nature reserve to the north-east, where remains from the Crusader era can still be found.
Today's city was founded in 1934 by German immigrants. The Mannheim and Hönig families from Chemnitz were among the first residents to build the new town after being forced to leave their homes in Germany as Jews.
In the lecture concert, historian Dr Jürgen Nitsche will provide details about these families and their lives in Chemnitz and Israel. The lecture will be accompanied by a string ensemble from the Chemnitz Municipal Music School under the direction of Caren Raßbach.
