Lecture on the work of the Chemnitz Regional Court

Event at the VHS: Thursday, 1 October, 7 p.m., course room 4.07

The adult education centre invites you to a lecture on Thursday, 1 October, 7 to 8.30 pm, in the TIETZ, course room 4.07, which offers a "look behind the scenes of the district court". Admission is free. Due to the limited number of places available, registration is strongly recommended at www.vhs-chemnitz.dehttp://www.vhs-chemnitz.deor 488-4343.

In this course, the press officer of Chemnitz Regional Court will give a brief overview of the various jurisdictions and their organisation and responsibilities. The focus will be on the area of criminal law, as this generates the greatest interest among the press and the public. The course is intended to prepare students for attending a criminal trial as a spectator. Therefore, the most important processes from the preliminary investigation to the start of the main trial will be outlined first. Then the work of the professional judges and lay assessors is explained until the judgement is reached.

The independent administration of justice is a valuable asset of democracy. Courts and judges serve to implement the law. In Germany, there are different types of courts and different instances, i.e. hierarchical levels of jurisdiction.

This event is a cooperation between the Chemnitz Regional Court and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
