Lecture on the use of hydrogen

On Thursday, 28 September from 3 to 5 pm, Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Chemnitz West eG (WCW) in cooperation with the City of Chemnitz is inviting interested parties to an information event as part of the integrated neighbourhood concept for Kappel. This will take place in the event room of the Mehrgenerationshaus, Irkutsker Straße 15. Guest speaker Prof Dr Thomas von Unwerth, Head of the Chair of Alternative Vehicle Drives at Chemnitz University of Technology and Chairman of the Board of HZwo e. V., will report on the latest developments in the use of hydrogen. Due to the limited number of places, please register by telephone on 0371 49580629.

In 2019, an integrated neighbourhood concept was created for the Kappel district. The aim is to modernise the residential area and make it more liveable. The neighbourhood was one of the first "construction areas" of the former Fritz Heckert residential area in prefabricated construction. The last refurbishment was many years ago. For this reason, a comprehensive package of measures was put together in the areas of urban redevelopment, housing, demographics, social issues, mobility, green and open spaces, energy efficiency and climate protection. Some of the projects of Wohnungsbaugenossenschaft Chemnitz West eG (WCW) have already been visibly implemented.
In a second phase, this neighbourhood concept has been implemented since 2022 by WCW in cooperation with the City of Chemnitz through an energy refurbishment management team led by energy efficiency expert Karsten Sommer.
The neighbourhood is intended to combine a modern living environment for young and old. Well-kept green spaces with cosy rest areas will invite people to linger. Space will also be created for leisure, play and recreation. Mobility options, including charging infrastructure, are also on the agenda. Sustainability, the integration of renewable energies and the conservation of resources are key aspects of the planning and realisation. Initial activities have already included the commissioning of a solar energy system to generate electricity and the construction of a cistern to store water. Two green façades contribute to the reduction of particulate matter.
The project is funded by the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) programme 432 "Energy-efficient urban redevelopment".
