Lecture on climate programmes
As part of the Energetisch working group, the Chemnitz Environmental Centre is hosting a lecture on the topic of "Opportunities and limits of municipal climate programmes" with Prof. Felix Ekardt, Chairman of BUND Sachsen. It will begin on 11 March at 6 p.m. in the Environmental Centre at Henriettenstraße 5 and admission is free.
The climate protection concepts will be examined using the example of the three major Saxon cities of Chemnitz, Dresden and Leipzig. Municipal climate policy is nevertheless necessary as a field of experimentation, as an impetus for higher political levels and as a supplement in urban planning, for example. Under no circumstances can global climate policy be replaced by measures at the grassroots level of municipalities, citizens and companies.
Effective municipal climate protection requires targets and interim targets to be met, the recording of all sectors of fossil fuel use, the recording of the ecological footprint beyond the boundaries of the municipality, transparency and good monitoring and not a pure focus on technology.
