On Tuesday, 24 March at 5 p.m., the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency invites interested parties to a lecture entitled "Bird and bat protection on buildings - how can we help endangered species?". The event is free of charge.
Representatives of the media are also invited.
In the illustrated presentation, Jens Börner, Head of the Lower Nature Conservation Authority at the Environmental Agency, will describe the way these animals live and talk about the necessary protective measures and how everyone can help to protect them. He will also present the newly published guidelines for the protection of bats and birds living in buildings in the Free State of Saxony.
Several animal species in our towns and villages live almost exclusively on buildings. Some of them are more conspicuous - such as swifts or kestrels, which draw attention to themselves with their calls. Other animals, such as bats, usually go unnoticed and are difficult to spot.
What all building-dwelling species have in common, however, is that they are increasingly losing their breeding sites and roosts. When buildings are renovated, remodelled or demolished, their nesting and resting places are often overlooked and lost as a result.
The city of Chemnitz has been implementing targeted protection and aid measures for these species for more than 30 years. Nevertheless, there is still a great need for action.
