Lecture evening in the city archive: About Chemnitz donors and patrons
The next lecture evening in the series "The City Archive presents" is scheduled for Wednesday, 14 May at 6 pm in the City Archive building, Aue 16, 09112Chemnitz. The topic this time is "Chemnitz entrepreneurs and their commitment to the common good. Foundations and patronage in the 19th and 20th centuries" will be presented by Jutta Aurich, Head of the City Archive. Admission to the event is free.
The city archives will provide information on the lecture evening: Chemnitz had quite a few entrepreneurs who are still known and famous beyond the city limits for their innovations and entrepreneurial success. However, business success was not the only thing that counted for them. Social commitment and active charity were just as important and a matter of course for them: they donated money to the poor and needy, supported charitable organisations and were involved in associations and politics. Many of these entrepreneurs also set up their own foundations in order to realise beneficial goals for the general public.
The lecture offers an insight into the history and tradition of foundations in the city of Chemnitz and presents individual foundations for social purposes, education and culture and the commitment of some Chemnitz entrepreneurs.
