Lecture evening at the municipal archive: Health care for children during the Weimar Republic
The next event in the series "The City Archive invites you" will take place on Wednesday, 10 April at 6 p.m. in the City Archive building, Aue 16, 09112 Chemnitz. The topic this time is "Health care for children in the Weimar Republic from a municipal perspective. The example of Chemnitz". The speaker is Birgit Schubert from the Chemnitz City Archive. Admission to the lecture is free.
The city archives will provide information on the lecture: Health care for children gained a new significance in the Weimar Republic, also building on positive approaches from the time before the First World War. The school doctor system and the school dental clinic were expanded. Strict attention was paid to cleanliness and hygiene in schools, and gymnastics and indoor gymnastics were introduced. Stays at school holiday homes became an important part of the annual programme. Ski courses in Oberwiesenthal were used for recreation and strengthening. Dr Theodor Böhme, the city councillor responsible for the Chemnitz school system, played a key role in this positive development.
