Lecture at the Environmental Centre: Energy policy after Chernobyl
As part of the Agenda 21 citizens' assembly process, a lecture followed by a discussion on "Consequences of Fukushima and Chernobyl" with Dr Gerd Lippold, member of the state parliament and energy policy spokesperson for Bündnis 90/Die Grünen, will take place on 11 May 2016 at 6 pm at the Environmental Centre. Interested parties are cordially invited. Admission is free.
Background:
Chernobyl and Fukushima are a reminder to take seriously the danger of a nuclear disaster that threatens the lives and health of millions. Both accidents revealed weaknesses that none of those responsible were concerned about beforehand.
In Germany, the largest anti-nuclear protests in history took place. The black-yellow federal government revoked the extension of the operating lives of nuclear power plants, which had only been decided a few months previously, and withdrew the operating licences of the eight oldest nuclear power plants. However, nine nuclear power plants are to continue operating until 2022 at the latest. The event aims to examine the consequences of Fukushima and Chernobyl and also address the energy transition as the major challenge of climate change.
