Lease of the stadium on Gellertstrasse to the Chemnitz football club

At its meeting on 6 March 2019, the Chemnitz City Council will discuss the basic conditions for leasing the stadium on Gellertstraße in the event that the Chemnitz football club is promoted to the Bundesliga 3.

The city council is to decide that the terms of use for the stadium will continue to be based on the conditions already in place for the regional league even if the CFC is promoted, provided the EU Commission does not raise any objections. The stadium will continue to be leased via the municipal GGG mbH. The latter will conclude a contract with Chemnitzer FC Fußball GmbH (a subsidiary of the CFC), which was founded in 2018, for a period of five years. To date, the club has paid around €150,000 per year for the use of the stadium on match days, the year-round marketing of the boxes and the use of the office and fan shop. In future, the CFC will have to pay around 175,000 euros per year for match operations in the 3rd division. The city will thus only pass on the small cost increases in the 3rd division.


In addition, the CFC is to be given the right to market the stadium name again, which will provide the club with an additional source of income compared to the current situation in the regional league. This right has been held by GGG mbH since summer 2018.


The proposal represents the city's commitment to the CFC. The commitment to the CFC includes the 1st team as well as the club's members and fans and especially the youth training centre. An outstanding job is being done there and it is an important part of the city's sports landscape. The city will therefore demand a written declaration from the insolvency administrator that the CFC will maintain the youth training centre on the basis of the DFB requirements and ensure its financing. This is to be flanked by the financing of two youth coaches via the city's sports funding guidelines. A corresponding resolution proposal will be presented to the school and sports committee on 13 March 2019.


In economic terms, the city council resolution would not result in any additional burdens for the city or GGG mbH compared to the existing lease. No additional payments will be made to the CFC by the city or GGG mbH. The economic basis for a successful restart of the CFC in the 3rd division will be strengthened.
