Large gymnasium in the Sportforum is officially opened
Symbolic handover of the keys on 21 April, 10.30 am, Sportforum
On Friday, 21 April at 10.30 a.m., the extended large gymnastics hall in the Sportforum will be officially handed over. After a welcoming address, Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky will symbolically hand over the key to the president of the gymnastics club (KTV), Klaus Kirchberger, and managing director Tom Scharf.
Representatives from politics and sport, sponsors, including former mayor Barbara Ludwig and sports celebrities such as world champion on the balance beam (2017) Pauline Schäfer-Betz and her coach Kay-Uwe Temme as well as former Olympic participants Sven Kwiatkowski (now coach) and Andreas Brettschneider are expected as guests.
Afterwards, at around 11 a.m., the KTV athletes will put on a gymnastics show.
The large gymnastics hall is a location for men's gymnastics at the national centre for high-performance sport. The floor space of the sports hall, which was once built in 1976, was thoroughly renovated and extended for sports operations. A weight room and a gymnastics room were also added. Construction began in April 2019 and the hall was put into operation in January 2021. Now that the outdoor facilities have been completed, the overall project has been finalised.
The total investment for the expansion of both the small gymnastics hall - which houses the national centre for female artistic gymnastics - and the large gymnastics hall amounted to around €9.98 million. The financing of this investment measure was secured with federal funds totalling 1.0 million euros, state funds totalling approx. 4.2 million euros and the City of Chemnitz's own funds totalling 4.8 million euros. The investment sum for the large gymnasium alone totalled approx. 7.6 million euros.
