Lantern parade "Chemnitz for humanity"

Thursday, 3 November 2016, 5.30 pm Meeting point at the Red Tower, Straße der Nationen

As part of the Local Action Plan for Democracy, Tolerance and a Cosmopolitan Chemnitz, the city is supporting a lantern parade under the motto "Chemnitz for Humanity", which unites people who are committed to a cosmopolitan, tolerant city.

The current political situation with all its developments concerns everyone and presents society with major challenges. There are questions and different views on how the problems in our country can be solved. However, they cannot be solved through exclusion and confrontation. Empathy, cordiality and constructive solutions are the keys to a perspective for all people living in our city. The event is organised by the Netzwerk für Kultur- und Jugendarbeit e.V.

On 3 November 2016, the event will begin at 5.30 pm at the Roter Turm, Straße der Nationen with a supporting programme. The lantern parade will then set off on a route through the city centre. Organiser Katrin Siegel is looking forward to welcoming Chemnitz residents, families, children and grandchildren who have a heart for humanity. If possible, they should bring their own lanterns, but a limited number will also be available on site.

To bring the evening to a peaceful close, there will be a vesper service with musical accompaniment in St James' Church afterwards, to which participants are cordially invited.

The event is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth as part of the federal programme "Demokratie leben!" and the "Lokaler Aktionsplan TOLERANZ FÖRDERN - KOMPETENZ STÄRKEN" of the City of Chemnitz (LAP).
