Kultursommer am Brühl: Tips for the long weekend from 9 to 11 August, e.g. with music, literature, puzzle tour

Here are selected events for the weekend:

Slackwerk Workshop & Show

Like slackliners in city centres elsewhere, this group of young acrobatics enthusiasts from Chemnitz is currently conquering the Brühl with this new trend sport, which involves balancing on a webbing strap. Spectators can watch the acrobats at the weekend or try balancing themselves.

Friday, 9 August, from 5 pm and Saturday, 10 August, from 10 pm:

Music on the Brühlterrassen and in the Barlament

The weekend programme on the Brühl would not be complete without hip sounds: on Friday, 5 to 10 pm, with Heinz Fiction (Ninja-Tune-Special) on the Brühlterrassen and afterwards from 10 pm with Quest & Gendai (D'n'B) in the Barlament (Brühl 51). On Saturday, Gendai & Friends (D'n'B) can be heard in the Barlament from 10 pm.

Saturday, 10 August, 2 to 3:30 pm:

Puzzle tour - The Chemnitz Brühl through the ages:On this tour, anyone interested will join tour guides Grit Linke and Udo Mayer to trace the historical development of the Brühl - once a Kuhanger, later a typical working-class residential neighbourhood, a shopping paradise for Karl-Marx-Stadt residents in GDR times, then a neighbourhood with lots of vacancies and in future an attractive residential area for young and old. A quiz with small prizes awaits at the end. Participation is free of charge. The meeting point is the Brühl office (Brühl, corner of Untere Aktienstraße 12).

Saturday, 10 August, 4 to 5 pm:

Lecture - The Chemnitz Brühl through the ages

Following the puzzle tour, tour guide Udo Mayer will explain the Brühl through the ages in a lecture with pictures in the Brühl office. The topic is the historical development of the area up to today's inner-city neighbourhood, which is currently undergoing urban development. The event will take place in the Brühlbüro (Brühl, corner of Untere Aktienstraße 12).

Saturday, 10 August, from 3 p.m.

Radio T festival radio

Radio T leaves its safe studios and accompanies the Chemnitz Kultursommer on the Brühl with a mobile live studio with music and entertainment. Silent radio starts at 22:00 - bring a large or small FM radio, otherwise you won't hear anything.

Saturday, 10 August, 3 pm

Reading by Anne Bergmann: "Jazz in Berlin"

Anne Bergmann, author from Chemnitz, will be reading "Jazz in Berlin" (from the book Mauerstückchen) on the Brühlterrassen (Boulevard) - a story about the caesura in the protagonist's life caused by the building of the Wall - and about her love of jazz.

René Kästner - Graffiti as an art form

At the Barlament (Brühl 51) there will be all sorts of exciting and interesting facts about graffiti as an art form. In his lecture, René Kästner (CSF Media) will explain how graffiti began and how it conquered Europe and then the contemporary art market - with plenty of visual material, of course. In co-operation with the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Sachsen e.V. Admission 2€/4€

Reading by Dr Ulrike Lynn (Ulrike Warmuth): "Summer - and she lies lasciviously crucified in the dandelion ..."

Dr Ulrike Lynn (Ulrike Warmuth), research assistant at the Institute for German Studies and Communication at Chemnitz University of Technology, will also be reading at the Brühl Terraces with "Sommer" - und sie liegt lasziv gekreuzigt im Löwenzahn ...".The author began writing her own texts at an early age - in search of a "personal language". For her, literature has a lot to do with music - both in the composition of form and in the melody and sound that resonate in the words.
