Küchwaldpark entrance area on Leipziger Straße upgraded

The work at the entrance to Küchwaldpark on Leipziger Straße has been completed and the entrance is now open to visitors again. The redesign of the entrance area on Leipziger Straße, opposite house number 135, south-east of the ice sports centre, has created a prestigious, functional entrance area to Küchwaldpark that is in keeping with its listed status.

After the necessary pipes were relocated and the access shafts to the underground facilities of utility company eins energie were renovated, two new water-bound paths, a central lawn roundel with ornamental planting and shrub beds with grasses and flower bulbs were newly laid out. The new water-bound paths initially had to remain closed for natural stabilisation (settlement) and are now open. Eight benches and six litter bins were also installed.

The new trees were planted in late autumn last year. Five full-flowering cherries and shrubs were planted to the left and right of the new paths. The existing trees and shrubs were supplemented with 40 new rhododendrons. The maintenance of the newly created areas will be carried out by the contractor until 30 October 2021.

The new entrance area was planned by Kretschmar & Partner Landschaftsarchitekten mbB from Dresden. The landscaping work was carried out by Garten- und Landschaftsbau GmbH & Co KG from Chemnitz, Röhrsdorf.

The total costs amount to approx. 286,700 euros. Two-thirds of the measure is being funded by the federal and state government's urban redevelopment programme, the upgrading part of the programme through urban development funding from the federal government, the Free State of Saxony and the City of Chemnitz.
