The Kosmos Festival will take place on Saturday 29 August. From 12 noon until midnight, there will be an extensive programme of events, centred around the area of Richard-Hartmann-Platz, Seeberplatz, An der Markthalle and Fabrikstraße. As a result, there will be traffic restrictions from 6.00 am on Thursday 27 August until 6.00 pm on Monday 31 August.
Road closures
To ensure the safety of the event and to facilitate the set-up and dismantling work taking place on public roads, the following road closures will be in place:
An der Markthalle, Am alten Bad, Fabrikstraße
Complete closure to all traffic (including local residents)
Saturday 29 August, 6.00 am, to Sunday 30 August, 12.00 pm
At the Markthalle, Am alten Bad, Fabrikstraße
Complete closure with access permitted for local residents
Thursday 27 August, 8 am to Saturday 29 August, 6 am
Sunday 30 August, 12 noon to Monday 31 August, 6 pm
- The Markthalle underground car park beneath Seeberplatz is accessible at all times to holders of a parking space rented there, approaching from Hartmannstraße.
No-stopping zones
To ensure the event can be set up and dismantled properly, and to guarantee its safe running, no-stopping zones will be in place within the event area during the following times and in the following areas:
- Hartmannstraße car park, Richard-Hartmann-Platz
Thursday 27 August, 6.00 am to Monday 31 August, 6.00 pm - At the Markthalle, Am alten Bad, Fabrikstraße
Friday 28 August, 7.00 am to Sunday 30 August, 8.00 pm - Schloßstraße between Hartmannstraße and Theunertstraße
Saturday 29 August, 6 am to 6 pm
Alternative route
The road closure can be bypassed via Hartmannstraße and Theaterstraße.
Speed limit
Due to the proximity to the event site, a speed limit of 30 km/h will be in force on Hartmannstraße between Kaßbergstraße and Theaterstraße from 10.00 am on Saturday 29 August until 2.00 am on Sunday 30 August.
Residents’ parking
From 7.00 am on Friday 28 August until 8.00 pm on Sunday 30 August, holders of a Zone A resident parking permit will be temporarily permitted to park in the neighbouring Zones B and C. Holders of a Zone A resident parking permit do not need to take any further action to avail themselves of this entitlement.
Parking and public transport
Due to the limited number of parking spaces and car parks in the city centre, the expected disruption to private transport, and the existing restrictions caused by the CM4 construction works, it is strongly recommended that you use public transport.
Parking is available at city centre car parks not affected by the closure, as well as at Park & Ride (P&R) facilities.
The P&R car parks can be found at www.chemnitz.de/park-ride.
On the day of the event, CVAG will provide an enhanced timetable to ensure that sufficient capacity is available on the city centre public transport network. In particular, there will be an increase in night-time services.
Among other measures, services on the night network will be increased at 0.15 am:
- Bus routes N11 to N18 will run every 30 minutes at 11.45 pm, 0.15 am and 0.45 am, and thereafter at the usual hourly intervals.
- Route N18 will run as far as the Chemnitz-Center during the peak times from 11.45 pm to 0.45 am and will be diverted via Promenadenstraße – Georgstraße during this period.
- Line 82 runs every 30 minutes until 1.00 am.
Full details can be found at www.cvag.de.
The Central Saxony Transport Association has also organised a series of special services to ensure a relaxed journey to and from the festival for visitors from the region.
