How are the hedgehogs doing in Chemnitz?

On Tuesday, 20 January at 5 p.m., the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency invites interested parties to a lecture on the topic of "How are hedgehogs doing in Chemnitz?" at the Chemnitz Nature Conservation Station, Adelsbergstraße 192. Admission is free of charge.
Julia Vogel from the Lower Nature Conservation Authority at the City of Chemnitz Environmental Agency will provide information on the hedgehog population in Chemnitz, the design of hedgehog-friendly gardens and the ban on mowing robots at night that has been in force since June 2025.
Claudia Huwe-Klug from the "Stachelnasen Zwickauer Land e. V." association will report on the work of the organisation, whose volunteer members care for and look after injured, weak or sick hedgehogs.
Participants will also learn lots of interesting facts about the hedgehog's way of life.
Hedgehogs live in our immediate neighbourhood, but despite their great popularity, observations of hedgehogs are becoming increasingly rare. This is partly due to their crepuscular and nocturnal lifestyle. On the other hand, hedgehog populations have declined sharply throughout Europe. The hedgehog is categorised as "potentially endangered" for the first time on the international Red List updated in 2024.
