Kick-off meeting: Citizens' Platform Chemnitz Centre - West

Invitation for Monday, 1 October, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Flemmingstraße civic centre - Information from the Leipziger Straße civic centre

Activists from the Chemnitz neighbourhoods of Kaßberg, Schloßchemnitz and Altendorf are involved in a steering group and are currently preparing the 1st Citizens' Forum of the Citizens' Platform Mitte - West as a kick-off event.Citizens are cordially invited to this public event - the date is Monday, 1 October 2012 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bürgertreff Flemmingstraße (Flemmingstraße 8, House 19 - accessible by bus on lines 31 and 62 to Wendeschleife).

Annett Illert, neighbourhood manager "Stadteingang" at the Leipziger Straße community centre, commissioned as coordinator and moderator as part of the Mitte - West citizens' platform, explains the aim of the kick-off event: "The members of the steering group would like to talk to residents, district activists and tradespeople and provide answers to these questions: Who are we? What do we want? How can other active people and volunteers get involved? How can citizens get involved and contribute to their neighbourhood? The six volunteer members of the steering group would like to introduce themselves personally at the kick-off meeting and, together with the citizens, collect initial topics that are of interest to the city centre-west area."

According to Annett Illert, the kick-off event will also focus on the citizens' budget available to the citizens' platform for the implementation of projects and measures, which is intended to benefit the development of the Kaßberg, Schloßchemnitz and Altendorf neighbourhoods. Information will also be provided on the possibility of submitting applications for projects still possible in 2012. Annett Illert: "We are looking forward to ideas and suggestions! Applications must be submitted to the members of the steering group or to the 'Stadteingang' neighbourhood management based in the community centre at Leipziger Straße 39 by 15 October at the latest. However, projects that could be realised in 2013 should also already be considered."

The current six voluntary members of the steering group are Bärbel Böhm from the Leipziger Straße community centre, Tanja Iljasch, involved in the integration project "For each other, together, strong together" of the Neue Arbeit Chemnitz association, Joachim Wilsch, head of the Flemmingstraße community centre, Christian Köhler, member of the Flemminggebiet citizens' initiative, Hans-Jürgen Rost, member of the St. Matthäus-Kirchgemeinde, Jacqueline Hofmann, committed to the topics of parental work and violence prevention and chairwoman of the family association for young and old in Chemnitz.

For the event on 1 October, childcare will be organised on site by the steering group and offered free of charge by the Familienverein für Groß und Klein in Chemnitz e.V. between 5 and 8 pm.
