Kaßberg slip road bridge: condition makes restrictions necessary
During a regular main inspection of the Kaßbergauffahrt bridge over the Chemnitz and Fabrikstraße, damage was discovered in March that requires immediate action. The cracks found in the structure require further inspections and structural analyses.
It is therefore necessary to reduce the speed limit for all vehicles in the area of the bridge structure to a maximum of 30 km/h and to an additional 10 km/h for lorries and buses. The speed limit will be implemented in the coming week. This will ensure that the structure can continue to be used safely for the time being, even if further restrictions cannot be ruled out in the future. The bridge was subjected to a main inspection every six years and a simple inspection every three years, as stipulated in the relevant DIN standard. In addition, an inspection of the condition is carried out twice a year.
Further damage identified on the natural stone parapet has already been sealed off. It is possible to repair this damage temporarily. The contract is currently being awarded and realisation is expected in the second half of April. However, none of this work will be able to replace a fundamental overhaul of the structure, which was built in 1871. A time frame for this cannot be specified at present.
