Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Bridge renovation postponed
Construction of a two-court sports hall planned instead
The administration is proposing to the City Council for its March meeting that the decision to renovate the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff Bridge be amended. The renovation of the bridge, colloquially known as the Kaßbergauffahrt, is to be removed from the investment plan of the Saxon Investment Strengthening Act. Instead, the funding is to be used for the construction of a new two-court sports hall. The costs for this amount to 4.5 million euros, of which 3.375 million euros are subsidies from the Saxon Investment Strengthening Act.
The reason for the change is the significant cost increase in the tender results. The costs would rise from 2.8 million euros to 5.3 million euros. The administration is therefore proposing to postpone the implementation of the measure and, at the next opportunity, to include it in another funding programme with a possibly higher funding rate in the 2019/2020 biennial budget.
The original plan was to renovate the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff-Brücke/Kaßbergauffahrt bridge from 26 March 2018 until probably mid-October 2019.
