Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Bridge completed in October
Traffic opening will only take place in December after road construction work
Construction work on the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Bridge will be completed in October. This was much more complex than expected. For example, a retaining wall of the staircase had to be completely demolished and rebuilt. It was in a much worse condition than could be recognised on the surface.
The old structures of the bridge's edge arches also had different dimensions to those visible from the outside. This only became apparent after the cladding of the structure was opened during construction.
Now the road construction work above and below the bridge (on the Kaßberg slip road) is still pending. As the subsoil in the road area is not sufficiently stable, the base course must be additionally reinforced.
The Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff Bridge is expected to be opened to traffic in December - by the timetable change on 15 December 2019 at the latest.
