Karl Heinrich Wilhelm Schönberg - Biographer of Karl Stülpner

Historical insights into the city's press and library system on 22 October

The next event in the series "The City Archive presents" will take place next Thursday, 22 October 2015, 6 p.m. in the Volksbank building, Innere Klosterstr. 15, 09111 Chemnitz. Admission is free.

The theme of the joint event with the Chemnitz History Society is "Karl Heinrich Wilhelm Schönberg - Biographer of Karl Stülpner". Britta Günther M.A., historian and employee of the city archives, will trace Schönberg's largely unknown life and provide interesting insights into the city's press and library system around the middle of the 19th century.

Karl Heinrich Wilhelm Schönberg (1805 - 1865) published a biography of the Erzgebirge gamekeeper as early as 1835 - during Stülpner's lifetime. As a young man, Schönberg had studied in Halle and Leipzig after attending the Chemnitz Lyceum and lived in Chemnitz from 1839 (with a few interruptions). Here he ran a lending library and worked for publishers of periodicals.
