On Wednesday 15 October at 10 a.m., a cycle tour with Dr Claudia Elif Stutz, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Transport, Regina Kraushaar, Minister of State for Infrastructure and Regional Development, and Mayor Thomas Kütter will set off for the cycle path bridge over Kalkstraße to officially open the structure at around 10.15 a.m. together with Steffi Schön, Head of the Department for Local Mobility, Cycling and Road Construction at the LASuV. *
Representatives of the media are invited to attend. The cycle tour starts at the viaduct near the renaturalised Pleißenbach stream on Limbacher Straße (coordinates: 50.83539, 12.88662).
With the completion of the cycle path bridge over Kalkstraße, the gap between cycle path construction sections 2.1 and 3 has been successfully closed at grade as a crossing over the motorway feeder road to the BAB 72. The bridge was assembled with approx. 284 tonnes of steel and 840 square metres of carbon concrete in the shortest possible time and with only six full closures of Kalkstraße. The contract volume for the bridge construction amounts to around 8 million euros, 90 per cent of which is being funded by the federal and state governments.
Work on the bridge for the premium cycle path began on 1 July 2024. The company Hentschke Bau GmbH from Bautzen was commissioned with the construction work, which involved the company Metallbau Schubert GmbH from Markersdorf for the bridge steel construction.
The Wüstenbrand-Küchwald premium cycle path has a total length of 13.6 kilometres. The section from Riedstraße to Paul-Jäkel-Straße with a length of 5.2 kilometres has been completed so far. This month, the cycle path is expected to be extended westwards by 2.4 kilometres from Riedstraße to Röhrsdorfer Straße (Grüna) (construction phase 2.0).
The planning and construction of the other cycle path sections, starting from Wüstenbrand to Röhrsdorfer Straße (Grüna) with a length of 3.2 kilometres and the section from Paul-Jäkel-Straße to Wittgensdorfer Straße with a length of 2.8 kilometres (construction section 1 and construction section 4) have not yet been determined in terms of time and funding.
