Kaleidoscope concert
Municipal Music School: on 23 September, 6.30 pm, Concert Hall, Gerichtsstraße 1
On Saturday, 23 September at 6.30 pm, the Chemnitz Municipal Music School and the Chemnitzer Musikverein e. V. invite you to a kaleidoscope concert in the concert hall of the music school. To mark the 125th birthday of the composer George Gershwin, teachers from the music school will perform together as soloists and in small chamber music ensembles. Professor Christoph Sramek will lead through the programme.
Admission costs 15 euros, concessions 10 euros, pupils have free admission.
George Gershwin is one of the most important composers of the first half of the 20th century, and not only in the USA. With his jazz-inspired songs, orchestral works such as "Rhapsody in Blue" and "An American in Paris" as well as his string quartet "Lullaby" and "Three Preludes for Piano", he is still world-famous today. One of his most famous works is probably the song "Summertime" from his opera "Porgy and Bess", which is set in an African-American milieu.
