Kaleidoscope concert
English music in a matinee with teachers from the municipal music school
A kaleidoscope concert by the Chemnitz Music Association will take place on Sunday, 24 June at 11 a.m. in the concert hall of the Municipal Music School. 16 vocal and instrumental teachers from the Chemnitz Municipal Music School will be demonstrating their skills. Admission costs 15 euros for adults and 10 euros for concessions. Children accompanied by an adult are admitted free of charge.
This year, a total of seven works by English composers will be performed, presented by actor, singer and former newsreader Prof Wolf-Eike Bartels. The pieces range from the 17th century to the present day: from Henry Purcell's Pieces from "The Fairy Queen" (in an arrangement for four guitars), to Edward Elgar's three Pieces for violin and piano op. four, to a quintet for clarinet and string quartet by Howard Skempton, born in 1947. In addition, the headmistress Nancy Gibson (soprano) and Gabriele Ratzmann (piano) will present four parts from a song cycle by Gerald Finzi, based on texts from plays by William Shakespeare.
