Just don't avoid conflict! How many conflicts can democracy tolerate?

It is planned to reschedule the event in autumn 2021.
On Thursday, 24 June, from 7 to 8.30 pm, the adult education centre will be hosting an online discussion on the importance of political disputes. Should everything really be debated? Aren't all solutions "talked about"? What could a political culture of debate look like in which conflicts have an integrating effect and do not get caught up in populist statements? Participation in the debate is expressly encouraged. The speaker is political scientist Prof Dr Mark Arenhövel from TU Dresden.
Participation is free of charge. Anyone interested can register by 4 p.m. on the day of the event at www.vhs-chemnitz.de or 0371 488 4343 and will then receive an access link by e-mail.
In everyday life and in politics, conflicts and disputes are all too quickly perceived as disruptive. Instead, consensus, harmony and concord are highly valued. Yet democracies need objective debate: a peaceful but passionate discussion is needed to find an answer to the question of how we want to live together.
The event is a cooperation between the Chair of Political Theory and History of Ideas at Chemnitz University of Technology and the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre.
