Jury selects design for the new secondary school on Richard-Hartmann-Platz

The winning design for the new four-form secondary school at Richard-Hartmann-Platz will be announced next Thursday, 7 June at 3 pm in the Alte Hartmannfabrik. Mayor Barbara Ludwig and other judges will provide information at a press conference. Representatives of the media are cordially invited.
In accordance with a city council resolution from April 2016, the city is planning to build a new secondary school on the Hartmannstraße site. This is the city's response to the increasing number of secondary school pupils (grades 5 to 10).
An architectural competition, including the outdoor facilities, was announced with the aim of obtaining convincing designs in terms of urban planning, functionality, economy, energy efficiency and architecture.
The competition was carried out as a restricted, anonymous, single-phase realisation competition in accordance with the guidelines for planning competitions (RPW 2013) with a preliminary selection procedure and a subsequent negotiated procedure in accordance with the Public Procurement Ordinance (VgV).
Of the 20 selected participants, 17 submitted corresponding designs. The jury - consisting of nationally active specialist judges, the Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig and city councillors as expert judges, the heads of offices and departments of the City of Chemnitz, a representative of the Saxon Education Agency (regional office), and the head of the city of Chemnitz - was responsible for the selection process.The jury, which is made up of the Saxon Education Agency (Chemnitz regional office), the City of Chemnitz's representative for the disabled and a representative of the district school council and district parents' council as experts, assessed the submitted plans according to specific evaluation criteria and will present the winning design on Thursday, 7 June. From 8 to 21 June 2018, the competition entries will be on public display in an exhibition at the Alte Hartmannfabrik from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.
