Jury decision: 37 young artists from Chemnitz take part in the JugendKunstTriennale 2015 exhibition in Bayreuth

A young artist from Chemnitz is honoured with one of the main prizes - six young people receive recognition prizes

Chemnitz will be represented with 37 works in the 2015 Youth Art Triennial exhibition organised by the Saxon-Bavarian network of cities in January 2015. The commissioned jury has now made its decision on the exhibition entries and prize-winning works by young artists in spé from the cities of Bayreuth, Hof, Plauen, Zwickau and Chemnitz: 247 works of art had been submitted by young artists aged between 14 and 25 from the catchment area of the Saxon-Bavarian network of cities, 51 of which were art entries from Chemnitz alone. Chemnitz was represented on the jury by artist and designer Peggy Albrecht.

Simone Becht, who is supporting the project at the City of Chemnitz's cultural office, is delighted with the impressive result: "The commitment of the young people from our city has certainly paid off: 37 works from Chemnitz will be presented in the major competition exhibition in Bayreuth at the beginning of the new year. The jury has also already decided that seven of the young Chemnitz artists are among the winners of the 2015 JugendKunstTriennale - congratulations!"

The young Chemnitz artist Thea Kleinhempel, who already successfully took part in the JugendKunstTriennale in 2012 and washonoured with a recognition prize, will receive one of the two main prizes worth 500 euros in the 19 to 25 age group for her collage "Das Taub-Stumm-Alphabet". The following are honoured with a recognition prize, endowed with 200 euros each: Margarete Rödel (collage "Das Eigene Ich"), Madeleine Geißler (watercolour/fineliner "Klassengesellschaft"), Sophie Valentin (photography/print on aluminium "Parken in gekennzeichneten FlächenI+II), Vivien Nowotsch (painting "Losgelöst"), Caroline Nowotsch (painting "Stille Wiese") and Sina Grosch (photography "Eigenschuld")."

However, it will be some time before the young people can accept their awards: The award ceremony will take place as part of the opening ceremony of the 2015 JugendKunstTriennale on Saturday, 17 January 2015 in Bayreuth. The exhibition itself will be on display at the Bayreuth City Library in RW 21 until 7 February 2015.
