JugendKunstTriennale 2015: 35 young artists from Chemnitz take part in the competition with 50 works
Jury meets on 11 October in Bayreuth - Peggy Albrecht represents Chemnitz
The submission of the Chemnitz entries for participation in the 2015 Youth Art Triennial competition organised by the Saxon-Bavarian network of cities marked the end of a stage in the preparations for the art exhibition yesterday. "As of yesterday evening, it is clear that interest in the art competition is unbroken: Chemnitz is involved with 50 works from 35 participants."
Most of the young participants in the competition come from Chemnitz. However, the cultural office is also pleased to have received works from Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Burgstädt, Lichtenau, Schneeberg and Limbach-Oberfrohna - a nice proof that the art project has found resonance in the region as hoped. The age group of 14 to 18-year-olds is much more strongly represented in the competition with 27 young people than the age group of 19 to 25-year-olds with eight participants. Girls and young women are also clearly in the majority: There are only four young men among the 35 participants. With regard to the question of which artistic techniques were submitted, painting/graphics and collages were clearly in first place. Two photographs and one sculpture were also submitted.
All entries from Chemnitz will now travel to Bayreuth at the beginning of October, where the jury will decide on all submissions from the entire city network on 11 October 2014. Simone Becht: "Each member city is represented on the jury with one vote. Peggy Albrecht has taken on this task for Chemnitz, who herself was one of the first prizewinners of the competition project and is now a recognised and high-profile artist."
Other jury members are the painter Karla Schoppe (Zwickau), the graduate designer Andreas Rudloff (Plauen), the painter Jan Gemeinhardt (Hof) and Dr Marina von Assel, Director of the Art Museum in the host city of Bayreuth. They all face the difficult task of selecting the works that will be included in the major exhibition and deciding which artworks will be honoured with one of the prizes on offer. Simone Becht: "No matter what the jury's decision ends up being, it takes a lot of courage as well as creativity to face up to the professional judgement of the experts. The organisers at the Cultural Office of the City of Chemnitz wish all 35 up-and-coming artists from Chemnitz and the surrounding area every success!
